JioMart enters into electronics after fashion

Reliance Industries' e-commerce venture JioMart seems to have started delivering electronic products as a benefit from its momentum. The platform has become the largest e-grocer in the two months since its inauguration and now is the perfect time to start electronics as the festive season has already begun.

The move could change the pace of online delivery of electronics items, which are currently dominated by e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart. While the division is only available in Navi Mumbai, it is likely to move across many cities soon.

JioMart enters into electronics after fashion

A glimpse of Geomart's website shows that it offers Bluetooth headphones and personal care products, including kitchen appliances, small home appliances, shavers, and trimmers, with speakers from brands such as Samsung, MI, Apple, and Sony.

The Economic Times, which previously reported on the development, said it could bring in gadgets like smartphones, tablets, televisions, and laptops next week. Comparing product prices with Amazon and Flipkart, the two markets are offering significant discounts than JioMart.

Although Geomart has established itself as India's largest e-grocer within three months of launching more than 60,000k transactions per day, it was also among the top three shopping apps in India in August, according to a report by Sensor Tower.

The online electronics and smartphone segments are dominated by Flipkart and Amazon. So far, discounts and exclusive partnerships with brands have attracted customers to both platforms. Now, they will face stiff competition from JioMart as it can adopt all strategies including discounts to scale faster in new categories

According to e-commerce space tracking experts, the timing is perfect when it comes to electronics and smartphones. Amazon and Flipkart flashship sales ended yesterday with two divisions dominating each other. It is natural to make these categories better at JioMart. In addition to groceries and electronics, JioMart has already announced its entry into fashion. Since the beginning of the current financial year, Reliance has been advancing its customer-facing e-commerce initiative. After becoming a leader in the e-grocery segment, the platform is also testing a subscription-based micro-delivery model similar to BBDaily and Milkbusket
