Now there are 2 Marvel movies in total, so you can choose which viewing sequence: chronological or release. We’ll cover both in this guide, and explain how WandaVision, Loki and The Falcon, and Winter Soldier slots enter the MCYU timeline.
Marvel movies are busy in 2021 after taking a big break. Black Widow is already out, with three more release sets ahead of the end of the year: the upcoming Shang-Chi and Legends of the Ten Rings, Marvel's The Eternal, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. How to watch the Marvel movies in order: chronological order
Let’s get started with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) timeline, now with Black Widow of 2021 and soon with Shang-Chi! It explains how to watch 2 Marvel movies chronologically, starting with the origins of World War II Captain America, and ending with a trip to Italy in Peter Parker's Spider-Man: Far from Home (although hopefully, that will change soon).
This is how you’ll want to watch Marvel movies if you’re constantly buffed-it lets you enjoy the sequence of events while playing on the timeline, with the weird post-credit scene aside. When you want to factor them into your marathon, you will also find a separate section below if set relative to Disney Plus show movies.
Sometimes obscure-for example, Black Widow, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange all occur at about the same time and are set in different timeframes, making them difficult to order. We put Black Widow first in this bunch, although it clearly follows the immediate events of the Civil War, showing us Natasha being chased by Secretary Ross's men, and technically ending before the last shot of that movie. Avengers: Shang-chi is set after the endgame, but we'll add it to the list as soon as the movie is released.
Here's the chronological viewing order of the Marvel movies as of 2021:
Captain America: The First Avenger (takes place during WWII)
Captain Marvel (takes place in 1995)
Iron Man (takes place in 2010)
Iron Man 2 (takes place after Iron Man)
The Incredible Hulk (time unspecified, pre-Avengers)
Thor (takes place six months before Avengers)
The Avengers (takes place in 2012)
Iron Man 3 (takes place six months after The Avengers)
Thor: Dark World (post-Avengers, pre-Ultron)
Captain America: Winter Soldier (post-Avengers, pre-Ultron)
Guardians of the Galaxy (sometime in 2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (after Guardians)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (takes place in 2015)
Ant-Man (takes place in 2015)
Captain America: Civil War (post-Ultron, pre-Infinity War)
Black Widow (takes place right after Civil War)
Spider-Man: Homecoming (post-Civil War, pre-Infinity War)
Doctor Strange (takes place in 2016)
Black Panther (takes place in 2017)
Thor: Ragnarok (post-Ultron, pre-Infinity War)
Avengers: Infinity War (takes place in 2017)
Ant-Man and The Wasp (ambiguous, but fits nicely between IW and Endgame)
Avengers: Endgame (starts in 2017, finishes in 2022)
Spider-Man: Far From Home (eight months post-Endgame)
Now for the Marvel show order. Wandavision actually happened just a few weeks after the endgame. The Falcon and Winter Soldier are set six months after the endgame তাই so both shows will take place before Spider-Man: For From Home. Meanwhile, Loki is technically set after The Avengers event, but on another timeline - we suggest watching it after Avengers: Endgame.
WandaVision (three weeks after Endgame)
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (around six months after Endgame)
Loki (technically post-The Avengers in 2012, but best watched after Endgame)
