The nature of telegrams makes it easy for strangers to send messages to other users knowing their username or phone number. However, these individuals can be blocked. Users can block familiar contacts if they no longer want to communicate with them using the steps below.
How to block a contact in telegram
If you block a contact in Telegram, they will not be able to send you messages, calls or send media. However, the person needs to be on your contact list to use this method. Here's how it works:
Step 1: Launch the Telegram app on your mobile device.
Step 2: At the bottom left of the app, tap Contacts to show the contact list.
Step 3: Scroll through the list of contacts and select the contacts you want to block.
Step 4: Tap on the contact name to open a chat window.
If the contact is on your telegram chat list, you don't have to go through the contact list. Tap it in the chat list on the homepage.
Step 5: At the top of the chat window, tap the profile profile picture.
Some contacts may not have profile pictures. Rather you will see the initials of the contact.
Step 6: In the new window, tap the vertical ellipse, which indicates more.
Step 7: Select the block user from the list of options shown.
Step 8: In the pop-up window asking you to confirm the block operation, tap on the block user.
How to unblock a contact in Telegram
If you change your mind about blocking telegram contacts, you can still unlock them using the following steps:
Step 1: Launch the Telegram app on your mobile device.
Step 2: At the bottom left of the app, tap Contacts to show the contact list.
Step 3: Scroll through the list of contacts and select the contacts you want to unblock.
Step 4: Tap on the contact name to open a chat window.
Step 5: Tap Unblock User from the bottom of the chat screen.
How to block unknown users in Telegram
If the user you want to block is not part of your contact list, then the user may have found you using your username. You can still block them via privacy settings. Here's how it works.
Step 1: Launch the Telegram app on your mobile device.
Step 2: At the bottom right of the app, tap Settings.
Step 3: Scroll through the Options under the Settings menu and tap Privacy and Security.
Step 4: Tap Blocked Users in the next window.
Step 5: The next window shows you a list of blocked users if you have one. It also shows you a button at the top labeled Block User. Tap this button to start the chat page.
Step 6: Scroll through the chat and tap on it to select the user you want to block.
How to unblock unknown users in Telegram
Unlocking an unknown user in your telegram is easy and can be done through privacy settings. Here are the steps to do this:
Step 1: Launch the Telegram app on your mobile device.
Step 2: At the bottom right of the app, tap Settings.
Step 3: Scroll through the Options under the Settings menu and tap Privacy and Security.
Step 4: Tap Blocked Users in the next window.
Step 5: The next window shows you a list of blocked users. Select username.
Step 6: In the new window, select Unblock.
