How To Fix Google Chrome Not Loading Pages on Android and iPhone

When it comes to web browsing, Google Chrome remains the top choice, even on mobile devices. However, this does not mean that the browser is perfect. If you've been using Google Chrome for a while, you may have noticed that the browser fails to load the pages or stops working completely on your Android or iPhone.

If Chrome fails to load web pages despite having a reliable Internet connection, try the troubleshooting tips below to troubleshoot.

1. Close all tabs and restart Chrome

When resolving a problem, you should never cancel a simple resume. If Chrome struggles to open or partially load pages, you can close all open tabs and restart the app.

If you use Google Chrome on Android, tap on the tab icon above. Next, use the three-point menu at the top right to select Close All Tabs.

For Chrome on iPhone, tap the tab icon at the bottom. Then tap the Edit button and select Close all tabs from the pop-up menu.

After that, restart Google Chrome to see if it can load the pages


2. Enable standard preloading

If you think Chrome is taking web pages to load forever, enabling standard preloading will help speed up the process. This allows the browser to cache pages linked to your current web page So, Chrome will predict and prefetch the web pages you may open and keep them ready for you.


Here's how you can enable standard preloading in Chrome for Android and iPhone.


Android

Step 1: Launch Google Chrome on your phone. Tap the three-point menu icon in the top right to open the settings.

Step 2: Go to Privacy & Security and tap Preload Pages.

Step 3: Select the standard preloading option.

iPhone

Step 1: Open Google Chrome on your iPhone. Tap the three-point menu icon at the bottom right to go to the Settings menu.

Step 2: Go to Bandwidth and tap on pre-loaded web pages.

Step 3: Select when you want to preload Chrome links and tap Done.


3. Change the DNS server

If you are using your ISP's DNS server, it may be experiencing downtime or may be overloaded with requests. You can change your mobile's DNS server to Google's universal DNS servers to see if it improves the situation.


Android

Step 1: In the Google Chrome app, tap the three-point menu icon and select Settings.

Step 2: Go to Privacy and Security and tap Use Secure DNS.

Step 3: Select the 'Choose another provider' option and use the drop-down menu to switch to a different DNS.

iPhone

Since Chrome for iOS doesn't allow you to change the DNS server, you'll need to go to the Settings app to make the change.

Step 1: Turn on the settings on your iPhone and navigate to Wi-Fi. Tap the info icon next to your Wi-Fi network.

Step 2: Scroll down to tap to configure DNS and then select Manual on the following page.

Step 3: Tap the minus icon to remove the prefilled entries under the DNS server. Then, enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in the box and tap Add Server to create a new entry for Google DNS.


Finally, tap Save in the top right corner.

Launch the Google Chrome app and try loading a web page again


4. Use standard protection (for Android)

Safe browsing is an essential feature designed to protect you from malicious websites. However, setting Chrome to enhanced security may prevent it from loading certain pages that are otherwise secure. Instead of disabling Safe Browsing altogether, you can try switching to Standard Safety Mode. Here's how.


Step 1: In the Google Chrome app, tap on the top three-point menu icon and select Settings.

Step 2: Go to Privacy and Security and tap Safe Browsing.

Step 3: Select standard protection.

Try loading a web page into Chrome to see if the issue is resolved


5. Check Content and Privacy Restrictions (for iPhone)

If you have previously enabled content restrictions on your iPhone or iPad, Chrome may fail to load some web pages. So, if the problem is limited to a few selected web pages, try disabling content and privacy restrictions on your iOS device by following the steps below.


Step 1: Open the Settings menu and navigate to the screen time

Step 2: Tap Content and Privacy Restrictions and turn it off.


6. Clear Chrome cache and cookies

Older browsing data remains one of the main reasons behind Chrome's failure to load web pages. So, if the above solutions do not work, you can try clearing cache and cookies from Chrome.

Step 1: Open Chrome. Tap the three-point menu icon to go to Settings.

Step 2: Go to Privacy & Security (or privacy if you have an iPhone) and tap Clear browsing data.

Step 3: Next, tap the Time Range option to select All Time. Then mark the 'Cookies and Site Data' and 'Cached Image and Files' options before hitting Clear Data.

After that, restart Chrome one more time and see if it works properly.


7. Update Chrome

App updates usually bring all kinds of bug fixes and performance improvements to an app. Therefore, if nothing works, you can go to the App Store or Play Store and try to update to the latest version of Chrome.
