How to change your default browser in Windows 10

Often, when you first install a new web browser it will often ask you if you want to set it as default. A good opportunity to do this, as well as to import things like bookmarks, browsing history, and other choices from your old browser. If you want to make this your default if you want to avoid it or deliberately deny it, here's how to do it.

  1. Go to Settings> Applications and select 'Default Applications' in the left pane
  2. Scroll down to the 'Web Browser' heading, where you'll see icons and names currently set by default for any browser
  3. Windows 10 default apps
  4. Click on it and you will see a list of currently installed applications that you can choose from. Select the relevant one

That's it! Now, any link you click on other applications always opens in your preferred browser. For further control, you can choose which file types to open by clicking 'Choose Default Application by File Type'.


How to change your default browser in Windows 7

If you're still using Windows 7 without support, the same option is available in Control Panel. Set Programs> Default Programs> Default Programs and scroll down to search for the browser of your choice. Then click "Set this program as default".
