Remove Yahoo Search from Google Chrome

How to Remove Yahoo Search from Google Chrome

The battle of search engines is over. Google currently holds 90% of the search engine market share. However, users can slide with Bing, Yahoo, or DuckDuckGo from the company's Google Chrome browser. If you're going to be redirected to Yahoo search in Google Chrome, it's time to switch from Yahoo to more advanced Google once and for all. Here's how.

It's no secret that Yahoo provides poor search results compared to Google. Using Yahoo as your default search engine can lead to many unproductive hours on the go. It is better to remove Yahoo Search from Google Chrome and go back to Google as a search engine.

1. Change the search engine manually

If you have Yahoo as the default search engine in your browser, Chrome will continue to use Yahoo to answer your queries from the address bar. It's time to change Yahoo to Google from Chrome settings. Here's how.

Step 1: Open Google Chrome on the desktop.

Step 2: Select the three-dot menu at the top.

Step 3: Go to Settings.

Step 4: Select Search Engine from the left sidebar.

Step 5: From the Search Engine menu, switch from Yahoo to Google.

From the same Manage Search Engine menu, click on it and check the default search engine.

Click on the More menu next to Yahoo. Select Remove from list and you better go without Yahoo in Google Chrome browser.

2. Set Google as your homepage

Google Chrome allows you to set a specific page as the default homepage in the browser. By default, it is set to open a new tab page. However, you can easily change it on a specific page in the Chrome browser. Here's how.

Step 1: Go to Google Chrome on your computer and click on the menu above.

Step 2: Select Settings.

Step 3: Select Startup from the left sidebar.

Step 4: Click to open a specific page or set of pages from the On Startup menu.

Step 5: Enter the Google search address and close the tab.

From now on, Google Chrome will use the suggested specific page when you open a new tab.

3. Disable Yahoo-related extensions

With hundreds of extensions at your fingertips, filling the Chrome browser with dozens of extensions is pretty easy. Unfortunately, some may be outdated, may not be maintained, or may be incompatible with recent chromium builds.

Some lesser-known extensions may carry third-party trackers that direct users to Yahoo search engines instead of Google.

Behavior in a single extension can be difficult to identify. You must disable / remove all extensions from the Yahoo extension or list. Here's how.

Step 1: Open Google Chrome and go to More menu.

Step 2: From the More Tools section, select Extensions.

Step 3: This will open the Extensions menu.

Step 4: Disable or remove extensions that you do not verify or become obsolete.

If possible, try removing all extensions except your password manager. From now on, you will not see any extension in Chrome browser to change your search engine from Google to Yahoo.

4. Scan your computer with Windows Security

If you are the person who downloads a lot of files from the web, your computer may be affected by malware. These fake files also ruin your browsing experience and they will continue to change the Google search engine to Yahoo in the background.

Identifying such files by yourself is a difficult task. This is where Microsoft's excellent Windows security tool comes in. You can use it and delete any malicious files from the computer.

Click the Windows key and search for Windows Security. Go to the virus and run the threat protection and quick scan on the computer from the left sidebar.

Let Microsoft find such files from the computer.

5. Try Google Chrome Alert

Your options for surfing the web are not limited to Google Chrome. If you're having trouble with Google Chrome, the Windows / Mac ecosystem is full of Google Chrome alternatives.

One such option is Microsoft Edge. Microsoft's browser features slip tabs, collections, group tabs, and more. Of course, you can't go wrong with Safari or Firefox.
