Easy Steps to Cre­ate and Edit Videos in Canva

Video editing needs and is often limited to hardware and software. But it doesn't have to be this way. Today, you have a handful of feature-rich and lightweight video editors available online. Among them, Canvas is fast becoming everyone's favorite choice because it provides enough tools to edit your videos.

Dedicated hardware and software for video editing is expensive and has a sharp learning curve. How to crop, trim, combine videos on Canva

First, let's see how you can upload your video to start editing on Canvas.

Step 1: Open your web browser and navigate to Canva Video Editor. Now click on the Make a Video button.

Step 2: Inside the video editor, go to the Upload tab and click the Upload Media button to upload your video from PC.

Alternatively, you can use the three-dot menu to upload your videos directly from other platforms like Facebook, Google Drive, Instagram or Dropbox.

Step 3: Once you have uploaded your video, you are fully ready to edit Canvar Video Editor.

You will see that your entire video is shown as a single clip in the timeline. You can split your videos into different parts and edit each one separately.

To split your video, move the cursor to the part where you want to split the video. Now right click anywhere in the timeline and select Split.

Additionally, splitting your video into sections allows you to change the order of the clips. You can view all your clips in Grid View and change their order from there.

To add more clips and images to your video, click the + Add Page button.

In addition to splitting, you can easily trim your clips on canvas. Here's how.

To trim your video to canvas, select the video and click the cut icon in the top left corner.

Next, use the two sliders above to select a part of the video. Finally, click Done to save your trimmed video.

Crop the video

Similarly, you can crop your video in the direction of your choice on the canvas. To crop your video, select the video in the preview and click the crop button at the top left.

Now crop the video frame just as you would crop a picture. Finally, click Done.

Note that equal proportions will be applied to the entire clip.

How to add material and text to a video

In addition to basic editing content, you can add elements and text to save your videos on Canvas. Here's how.

Step 1: Go to the Elements tab on your left. You can explore the extensive library of various Canva stickers, graphics, photos, charts and much more. You can search for a specific element by searching different categories or using the search option.

Step 2: You can access any element from the library by clicking on it. Once added, you can move, resize, crop, or animate your needs.

The material you add to your clip will appear throughout the video. To remove the element from the video, select it and delete it.

Add text to video

With Canva, you can insert text to make your video more descriptive. Here's how.

Step 1: Go to the Text tab on your left. First, select the type of text you want to add.

Step 2: Next, you need to select a text style for your video.

Step 3: Once added, you can edit the text inside the text box. Additionally, you can use the toolbar above to change the font style, size, color, position, spacing, etc.


How to add effects and transfers to a video

Once the basic editing is done, you can now add effects with smooth transitions to the canvas and add some extra flavor to your videos by adding your clips. Here's how.

Step 1: Select the clip from the timeline you want to edit and click Animate from the toolbar above.

Step 2: Here, you will find different types of pages and photo animations. You can preview them by clicking on each of them.

Similarly, you can also add such effects to a specific element or text. To do this, select the element and click on the Animate option from the toolbar above.

Now to your left, you will find a few animations that you can apply.
