How to Reply to a Spe­cif­ic Mes­sage in Microsoft Teams

When you're working with dozens of team members on the Microsoft Team Channel, it can sometimes be confusing. Even in private chat, it can be confusing when talking about multiple topics. Fortunately, the Microsoft team allows you to reply to a specific message in a channel or private chat.


Here's how you can reply to a specific message on Microsoft Teams on desktop and mobile.


Microsoft team for Windows and Mac

Microsoft Teams is already installed on Windows 11. However, don't mistake common teams with team-driven chat apps. Here's how you can reply to a specific message in Microsoft Teams on Windows.


Step 1: Open the Microsoft Team app on your computer.


Step 2: Select the channel or private chat you want to use.


Step 3: Find a specific message you want to reply to.


Step 4: Move the cursor over it and you will see a pop-up to open more options menu. Click on the three-point menu.


Step 5: Select the answer and you will see the message in the chat box.


Step 6: Type a message and press Enter key to send the message.


You will see your reply and original message in the interface. Microsoft uses the same UI / UX for both Windows and Mac. You can follow the same steps in Microsoft Teams for Mac and reply to a specific message in a conversation.


Microsoft team for iPhone

If you are away from the desk and want to reply to a specific message on the team, you can easily use the team mobile app. Here's how you can use the answer function in Microsoft Teams for mobile.


Step 1: Open Microsoft Team on iPhone.


Step 2: Go to the contextual conversation where you want to answer a specific conversation.


Step 3: Long tap on a message and it will open a context menu below.


Step 4: Select the answer, and you can type your answer in the chatbox to reply to that specific message in Microsoft Teams.


You will see a message in a conversation and a preview of the text you typed. This makes it easier for you and others to understand the context of the conversation.



Microsoft Team for Android
