How to strike via text in Gmail

Although you think the ability to strike via text will be included in Gmail by default, the current version does not support Strikethrough. While this may not be a feature that you use often, sometimes it is the only way to format something correctly - so it is a useful skill to learn.

To get StrikeThrough text in Gmail, you need to format your text in Docs and copy and paste it into Gmail. To do this, follow the steps below

Log in to Google Drive.

Create a new document and type your text in it.

Select the text you want to strike.

Select "Format" and "Strikethrough".

Copy the text.

Open Gmail and click "Compose".

Paste the text.

The process is a bit complicated, but it does get the job done. However, if you configure Gmail to send only plain text, the formatting will disappear. To re-enable rich text emails, follow these steps:

Open Gmail and click "Compose".

Click on the three vertical dots at the bottom right of the blank email.

If there is a check mark next to "Plain text mode", click on it.

Now, try pasting again and there should be a strikethrough.

Now that you have Rich Text enabled, you have several formatting options directly within Gmail.

Bold text in Gmail

The bolding text sets it apart. Whether you want to draw attention to it, emphasize it, or make it easy to find, bold text is an effective way to quickly understand your meaning.

Open Gmail and select "Compose".

Select the underlined "A" next to "Send" in the new email window to access text options.

Select the text you want to encourage, then select "B" in the window.

You can highlight it and make it dynamically bold by pressing Ctrl + B (Cmd + B for Mac).

Highlight text in Gmail

Email highlighting is rarely used outside of the office environment, but it is possible if you want to use it.

Open Gmail and select "Compose".

Select the text you want to highlight in the compose window.

Select the underlined "A" next to "Send" in the compose window to access text options.

Select another underlined "A" in the popup bar to select color options.

Select a background color on the left side of the blade.

Note: The color palette on the left changes the background color, while the text on the right changes color.

Quickly unsubscribe

In the rare event that a junk email exceeds Gmail's filter, or you subscribe to an email and no longer wish to receive it, you can search for the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email - or, you may be deceived. Gmail understands how frustrating it can be to constantly receive junk, so it makes it easier to unsubscribe.

Open the email in Gmail.

Select the gray "Unsubscribe" link next to the sender's name at the top.

When the popup appears, click "Unsubscribe" and Gmail will automatically unsubscribe from you.

While it is easy to unsubscribe from some marketing emails, some prefer to bury the link where it is harder to prevent you from doing so. This is a quick way around that.

Of course, some annoying marketers know how to get membership cancellation rules. To make sure you don't see any more emails, click "Spam". A popup will ask you if you want to report it as spam, or unsubscribe and report it as spam. Select the second option to make sure Gmail never shows you one of those emails again However, use this option sparingly - it can damage a sender's reputation.

Use keyboard shortcuts

Gmail works great to help you manage your inbox, and it's constantly changing to allow you to do more. One of the best things about using Gmail is the keyboard shortcuts, which are not turned on by default. To turn them on, follow these steps:

Open Gmail and select the settings cog icon on the right.

Select "Settings", then scroll down to "Keyboard Shortcuts".

Toggle settings to "Keyboard shortcut on".
